View Full Version : Prepare to be shocked by my repulsive playing.

Hello everyone.

Today I decided to record myself improvising over a backing track which I got from www.synapticsystems.com (http://www.synapticsystems.com/studios/improvam7fmaj9.htm) .

It's 2 and a half minutes long, and I make some mistakes, hit a wrong note here and there, but ahwell, it was the best take I got out of the three I did.

Here's the link to it >>>LINK (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/seanguk_music.htm) <<<

It's the one called "Jam 29.05.05". Just click where it says "mp3". Hopefully it should work.

I used "sound recorder" and the first desk mic ever made to record it, so I apologise for the poor guitar sound.

Let me know what you think. I apologise in advance for the awful playing in the sound file, please forgive me. :o

[EDIT: Forgot to add: I missed the ending as I got so involved in the playing, hence why the guitar over runs the backing, I wasn't willing to record the whole thing again just for that.]

hey Akira, I like ur style I can deff see ur a satch fan ... the jam starts off cool but u loose ur way a bit near the middle and then find ur way back towards the end... u should try slowing down a bit too not everything has to be played fast but in saying that ur legatto is good.. u might work on ur vibrato on ur string bends a lil but over all its pretty damn good and dont worry about hitting wrong notes when ur jammin thats what jammin is for .. try to keep an ear out for the backing track when it changes chords use the root notes dureing the chord changes that way u will find ur solo will sound much better... keep up the good work..... 7.5/10

Thanks silentmusic. As you said, my bends weren't all that good, I blame that on nerves to be honest; yes, I get nervous even when recording something.

20 views and only 1 reply, are people really that repulsed? :(

Nice legato man, but your bends and vibrato definately need some attention. Other than that, I thought your playing was pretty good. You have gotten cleaner since your last clip.

And "sound recorder" is hideous. Download Kristal Audio Engine - it's free and its a hell of a lot better than sound recorder.

Thanks CW. I guess i've improved over the 6 months since my last clip; i'll have to post another clip up in another 6 months just to let you know that I still suck. :D

And i'm on the website for that Kristal Audio Engine, this looks quite good, thanks for the heads up man.

Hey thanks! I'm addressing the bends, I think I was just having an "off day" for bends (if there is such a thing).

Thanks people.

Yep, perty good there dude. All the above critiques withstanding, my only comment is that sometimes it seemed too full of licks and not enough "humm-able" melody. Still those licks were cool. I know you were just going improv and this isn't really a composition, but that's my $0.02.

On another note, you might be getting so many views without replies because of where you posted the mp3...it requires a sign-in to listen. I used this site 1st as well without realising this, but then came across THIS ONE. (http://music.dmusic.com/) It may not be the best either, but it's an alternative. Perhaps others can suggest the best place to post mp3's?

I never realised that, are you sure you need to be signed in to listen?

Thanks for the comment.

Edit: I seem to be able to listen to it fine when i'm not signed in.

I see...it will let you listen to either hi or lo fi versions, but the mp3 makes me sign in.

Hey Akira, it was pretty cool.

I like the attidute, very Satriani like. I can tell you were nervous and that why somethings were pretty sloppy, but it still was a pretty nice recording.

I have also been playing for 2 years, maybe we should jam sometime.

Thanks man!

And i'd be up for a transatlantic jam sometime, however we'd manage that. :p
