Good afternoon.

I've been playing for about 6 months and have gotten the major and minor chords down well. My problem is with picking individual and alternating strings. I've checked out some of the postings on this site, but they seem too advanced (getting more frustrated than increasing skill level).

Any suggestions for a beginning picker?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I Would suggest working on Down and upstrokes.
By useing them in scales,or just give the G string open,
1 beat then use an upstroke on the high E >1 beat up.
Practice down up down up ect. Try repeating this.

Much appreciated skee1.

I've only been using downstrokes, so it makes sense that better speed can be obtained with down and up.

I Agree!
But try playing down and up strokes on one string first. Make sure you can hear all notes. When that works, try fx. playing a down stroke on the first string followed by an upstroke ond the second and so on. And always practise the opposite too. Start slow and increase the pace.
Good Luck
