I have a Les Paul Standard by Epiphone and a Marshall amp, its the cheaapest one with only Gain, Contour and volume controls. THe problem is, that to get my slash sound, the sound like on Sweet Child o Mine, i have to put the gain at 10, contour at 10, then both tones at 10 on my guitar. BUT!!! If i play a cord with these settings the chord goes... mushy, scrabbled, unclear. Doesnt sound right, because my gain is up so high. This is the same when i pick 2 different strings at once, the sound goes all distorted. So, how do i solve this, i know i have a cheap amp but would an effects pedal fix this? could i put the gain down on the amp and turn summin up on the pedal? or is it basically impoissible for my amp to get that good sound?
Thanks, Later

What kind of volume are you playing at? Try crankin' your amp up.

Turn the volume down on your guitar.

Then I suggest you do what Cristoph said and turn the volume on your guitar down. You'll lose some of the crunch and thus lose some of the mud.

Dude, if the volume on your guitar is at 1, and you're still getting that mushy distorted sound, then you need to turn the gain on your amp down. That's the bottom line - way too much gain.
If that doesn't work, and you still can't get the sound you want, then I would suggest you get a new amp. A decent Marshall tube amp might do the job.
