how about a Gretsch? About as classic as it gets, and you can still get that heavy heavy monster sound :D

The main difference I see in the tone you seek and the tone you have are tubes. I would suggest investing in something like this (http://www.marshallamps.com/images/products/vintage/1959slp.html) . With that and a few pedals, you'll be there in no time.
One amp.......MARSHALL JCM 800.

believe it or not the tone from this amp is pretty good ..it is no jcm but it sounds sooo close..and i agree..but yall are makin the jcm800 money lol..my real concern was affordable versatility (quick transitions with a touch of my foot)for all the styles of music and different tones i am into.. i just played a mode 4 marshall at the music store never heard of it..the guy listened to me talk a minute and he showed it to me..and it had every thing i needed..it is like having 2 -2 channel amps with the foot switch..made just for me ,but a richer me.. thanks for the input
