hey, I was recently checking out mesa boogie amps, but I've gone to just about every music store online and cannot find one that sells them, so I have no way of figuring out a price range for one. any of you know a place where they are sold online?

IIRC Mesa prefers not to get down with all the big companies like musiciansfriend.com and music123.com because they don't want to get into the big market price pissing matches; they can keep a higher profit margin by making their items more scarce and "boutique" and people still will buy them enough for them to turn a huge profit.
The Mesa hollywood outlet is a really cool place, the staff is all very cool and all the guitars they have there are hand-picked for benig the best tone amongst their batches. If you're a metalhead who cares about tone you have to go there at least once!
If you get your amp through the company, you can get all sorts of sweet custom features; handmade hardwood cabinets, custom leathers and tolexes, grill cloths, etc etc etc.
Otherwise you can try something like www.gbase.com, there are usually some good ones up there, otherwise you'll probably have to hit the mom & pop stores.

I read about mesa boogies in a book I own, and absolutely fell in love with them , just from the photos. Over and abov the marshalls and vox and quite a few other nice looking amps in there.
If I was to buy an amp, the MB Mk III would be my first choice. It's the one featured in that book. But I've seen the MKIV, and it's not bad looking either.
I also loved the polytone minibrute, again from that book. I have nice taste, huh?

you definitely do... you know david... you should consider opening up the first boutique guitar store in Kenya! you could have the only place that had walls and walls of Gibsons, Fenders, PRS', Gretsches, Mosrites, Hofners, etc and a big island in the center filled with Mesas, Voxes, Riveras, Oranges, THQ's and the like! that would be sweet and you'd probably have a national monopoly.

Man, that would be something to BEHOLD! I however don't know how big a market there is over here for that. But maybe there'd be people to buy stuff, coz all these good musicians keep looking outside the country to buy real good quality instruments.
Plus maybe I'd have people coming in from East And Central Africa for their major buys.
It's an idea, seriously. I bet it would need quite an amount of dough to put together, but still, it's an idea.

the only thing bigger than the guy's selection is his ego!!! He's very opinionated, and kind of takes the "if i disagree with you it's because you're worthless" mentality with things.
he has a stranglehold on the vintage Steinberger market and would like you to think he has a stranglehold on the vintage PRS and Kramer markets.
What I think is funny is that about 4-5 years ago he had something up on his page about how PRS said that they'd never do an import guitar and he was hopping mad but not surprised that now they had a Korean line (the Santana models) and had no issue writing pages on how import guitars were junk... but... now he stocks all those "junk" brands.
He's also notorrious for his, uh, nefarious customer service skills. One guy said that he made fun of his wife for being Korean and told him the reason that the guitar he got from him didn't appear to be what he ordered was that he was an idiot! there's a whole page up somewhere devoted to stories of his dishonesty.
he's built his reputation on his catering to the stars; he deals with a lot of old-skool metal gods who i'm sure he treats like royalty.
startup capital for a guitar store isn't as bad as some other busnesses but figure if you want to have 10 Fender '52 RI Telecasters, which would sell for about $1100 USD but you can buy in shipments for $650 each, that you need $11g's just for that... so... figure probably about $200,000 startup costs.

There is a reason alot of mom n' pop music shops still make it despite the music malls like sam ash, guitar center e.c.t.
Sam Ash won't give you the time of day compared to the smaller shops customer service.Ask for a set up(cleaning, restringing, intonation, truss rod adjustment)at a big store and see what happens.Plus the overall selection of small stores may be smaller(obviously),but the products more often then not are of higher calibur.Less pressure and return hassles if they occur.
yeah,a music shop would be sweet. The initial overhead and property acquisition might suck, but if the sevice is right and good brands are on the floor then you would have a neat little business.
