well, chemistry gave us gunpowder, which has given us some awful bloody wars... so i hate it for that... and hell in its more primitive forms of metallurgy gave us some pretty nasty swords that also gave us some pretty gruesome wars... but... it's also given us such wonderful things as Comtrex, which currently keeping the contents of my nose from dripping onto the keyboard, and in giving us gunpowder has given us some pretty sick movies like Apocalypse Now and Donnie Darko... not to mention modern metallurgy giving us Alnico 5 so... i'm going to have to say

YAY FOR CHEMISTRY!!!

Yea, my teacher is like that. She gives us notes without letting anybody ask questions untill she does examples, she only does 3. then she gives us homework, doesn't go over it, then we have a lab day witch we do not go over what we learned on monday, then we get classwork to do more of the problems in witch no one know whats ther're doing. And if you ask her for help she just gives you the answer and says check your work. What bloody work!lol, then we have a test friday. Thats my week of chem. Yay? i say nay. We shouldn't have to take chem when were never gonna use a single thing of it in life except a select few. How to solve this problem, be an a** in class, lol. thats what me and my friends do. Do alot of stupid stuff during class ie: resting a pen on top of your fingers, twirling it as high up as possible then try and land it back. that really gets my teach ticked especially when it hits the ceiling and we act like nothing happened.

My Sociology teacher is BAD. She'll go through things very quickly, expecting us to absorb it from her mind or something, then she'll give us 50 million hand outs, it's annoying as hell.

Last week, in the space of two lessons I got 32 handouts. (Just to give you some idea of how bad it is.)

An excellent way to get through class without doing ANYTHING is to look like your working.Ive passed whole weeks where I didn't actually do anything, but looked like I was solving problems e.c.t.Keep in mind this only works if your not required to hand in-class work in at the end of the day...but I usually just said I didn't do the work up front casually. Most of my teachers would give C's just as long as you show up for class.

My chem "teacher" is Asian and she has very poor English. On top of that, she cannot explain anything. She goes over everything as if we already know it all and then wonders why half of the class fails the tests. For this weekend, she gave us 3 worksheets and a 1200 word report to have done for next week, and she didn't explain ANY of it!
Last year, she started with a class of 16, after the first term, she had 8!!!

I loved Chem. I took Chem and AP Chem (Chem 2) in high school. I had a great teacher....but I also took 3 other science classes my senior year so that might explain a few things. I've found that I use my knowledge of chem more often than I would have thought. eg. 1. Figuring out the best chemical to get a stain out, or to clean something. 2. Sounding really smart. 3. Messing around and making things blow up or making some other cool chemical reaction. 4. I find it very interesting to be able to understand the world around me and I have found that Chem and Physics have helped me out in that area quite a bit.
Plus, it really is cool to know how to use differnt chemicals to make cool reactions or to blow stuff up "safely".

Chemistry is used too much for things like homemade Acrolein and SC-residue accelerants. Did you know that 57 people were killed in Beirut by a single bomb made from gerbil food? That's chemistry for you.

Chemistry is good overall, but it definitely shouldn't be taught to everyone.

very true, but general chemistry dosen't necessarily teach you have to make bombs. It could spark an interest, but it takes a lot more research to make a bomb than just taking chem in H.S. It does teach you about acids and bases which is very cool, especially if you just dropped acid. (talking hypothetically here)

Chemistry sucked in High School, then low and behold I get to college and end up taking 5 quarters of Chemistry! The part I hated about it the most was 3 hour labs once a week.

But, if I ever get taken hostage and told that I'm gonna get a bullet in the head unless I can explain the differences between sigma and pi bonds, I'll be okay. :D

My teacher was also one of the most conservative teachers I have ever had. He did this demo less than 7 years ago where water got everywhere, and he said he should have worn his thongs (meaning flip-flops).....and didn't know there was 2 meanings for the word.
Also, some kid made this hand gesture that he though was a "gang symbol" ......it was the shocker! Funniest thing ever. After about 10 minuites of the entire class laughing till we cried, I had to explain to him what it was. We told him it was like multi-tasking. That was a very uncomftorable experience to say the least.

One day in high school, I had a really big feed of pasta for lunch. That afternoon in chem class, I dropped a Silent But Deadly fart that had a nasty rotten-egg smell to it. I could see people starting to twitch and wince as it spread through the room. Eventually it reached the teacher, who suddenly looked up and asked "Does anyone smell Hydrogen disulphide?" It is possible to make a miniature a-bomb. And you could get the info on google. Its not a problem to find out how to build a bomb of that sort....its where to get the materials.I'm not sure if home depot carrys any enriched uranium.

And if you managed to make one, where could you set it off without causing an international incident...I suppose if you were an arms manufacturer, you could benefit from triggering a war by setting a nuke off on foreign soil.

In all honesty,I'm more concerned of a cataclysm such as a uncharted asteriod or comet rearranging the earths mantle...that and large cockroaches.

...mabey a 'dirty pipe bomb' or something.

Yes, that's possible. Dirty bombs are simple and easy to make compared to nuclear bombs.

What would be the hardest part though of making a WMD?

That depends entirely on who you are.

For example, if you're well enough educated that you can safely work with and build nuclear weapons you're probably already legitimately employed at a nuclear facility, in which case materials are not your responsibility. On the other hand, if you're Iran, the hardest part about making a nuke is not getting a US Marine's combat boot up your tailpipe afterwards.

For anyone who has to google for help there is no hardest part because it's simply impossible.

It shows up in things like the common acceptance of extreme violence in their entertainment, but major aversion to anything sexual . Consider the routine bloodshed in a lot of primetime TV shows and then recall the Super Bowl ruckus about Janet Jackson's 'wardrobe malfunction' and the fuss about the ad where an actress dropped her towel.

Speaking of the FCC, they're really just pulling things out of the air. Like the one dude who wants to ban the porn channels from cable tv. Its cable for cripes sake. If people want to pay for it let em buy it. Lets not forget the whole Howard Stern fiasco, a little anti-bush comes up and he off thousands of stations. Luckily hes not off wysp yet, and when he goes to sirius I'll be waiting, hee hee. ...If I ever get a chance, I'm moving back to Lafayette in a heart beat.
I've heard that place mentioned several times in songs. What's with it?

I'm a bit confused, though. Didn't South Louisiana vote strongly Republican in this last election?
You have to understand a few things:

Louisiana, especially South Louisiana is traditionally a Democratic stronghold. Since Cajuns love a scoundrel, there's a lot of corruption in the Democratic party so, down there, Republicans really are the reform candidates. I'm really disapointed Bobby Jindal didn't win the last election for Governor.

Next, Kerry did a wonderful job of coming off like a total pansy and making a lot of Southerners feel marginalized and ignored. Who votes for a candidate they feel doesn't respect them and can't defend them?

Anyway, so Louisiana chose Bush for President, and I think the Republicans picked up a Congressional seat, but on the state and local level, Democrats almost totally run the show. I set up a lot of election ballots that had four or five Democratic candidates and maybe one Republican.

Yeah, I did notice that there were many more democratic candidates.

I know as soon as I graduate I'm getting the hell out of Iowa, but I haven't decided where to yet. I might give SL a try.
