Im just wondering how much an attenuator changes your tone? Does anyone have experience with them?

And is the Marshall PB100 really the only attenuator you should use with a Marshall 100w tube head?

thanks.

They do sometimes have a tendancy to color your sound a bit, but not much at all. Along with the marshall power break attenuator, THD makes some very good ones called Hot Plates. You can check them out here (http://www.thdelectronics.com/products/hotplate.htm) . Plus the Hot Plate runs around $280 where as the Marshall PB runs around $520 (those are new prices).

Dr_Simon has the Marshall PB and uses it with a TSL100, so maybe he can chime in and give you some more info.

Well I like it though I've not had the chance to take it off and really get the tubes saturates without it. I suspect the TSL would demolish not only our house but all the others in the neighborhood as well.

It sounds great with it though. I run both the VPR and the PB at nearly full-tilt and still find that volume is very high. I normally manage to get the volume on channel 3 up to about 3 before my wise starts reading me the riot act.

Now THAT is an amp!

One of the few on which you don't need an "11!" ;)
