Does anyone have tips to playing without looking at the fretboard. Yeah I know, just do it, play with my eyes closed, play in the dark. But even though I know this, it's kinda wierd; I still have no idea how to approach it. Like later as you play more, can you actually feel the frets as your fingers go over them? Does it become a 6th sense? Or is it just that your hand gets used to the length of the fret board? In that case, if I play a larger or smaller scale guitar, will my brain get confused? So yeah I'd like some tips, thanks.

haha, the trick I've been using lately, is to watch an episode of seinfeld on my laptop with earphones while i'm practicing whatever riff I'm working on with the guitar unplugged :P. I'd bet you'd develop a pretty good, blind feeling for the fretboard if you did that once a day for a few weeks. Your fingers will get used to going to where they're supposed to, there's just no way around it... hope that helps

Try watching yourself in a mirror, and only look at your guitar in the mirror if you have to. Try to look at something else in the room past your guitar, so you only slightly see where you're playing, and gradually ween yourself away from looking at where you're playing. It defanately doesn't happen over night, so be patient and don't give up. "you can dooo iiitt"
I'd recommend the mirror thing too. I used to do it, and now I rarely have to look at the fretboard, just for fast passages or jumping all over the neck..

I look into the mirror so I dont directly look at the freboard, but know what I'm doing. Then after my brain gets used to that, I dont even look at the mirror.

Wow out of all the tips, this one helped me the most! It also helped me to stop biting my butt when the fleas started biting.

I just kind of look at the fretboard and play a solo. Then the next time I play looking away for half the time. Then I eventually go without looking, and play it that way a couple times. Works for me. Although I still have a little trouble getting the slides perfect. :)
