Sweeping has been giving me so trouble for the past couple months. The arrpegios never come out articulate for me. so two days ago i decided to try using alt. picking where most use sweeping, It worked great for me, 2 days and i cleanly got an A minor shape up to 80 bpm w/ sextuplets, It also seems to be helping my regular alt. picking a TON. But i ran into a problem, this only seems to work across 3 strings at a time. So heres what Ive got right now,

Sweeping-IF i could do it I think id be able to do it really fast, but i can't make it sound clean,

Alt. Picking the arps.- I can do it- it helps my regualr alternate picking is easier to improvise arps w/, and easy to switch to normal playing but its very limiting to the arpeggios I do play.

 Help?

Check out John Lindgren on this site and learn the final fantasy arps he has...take it slow and practice on that...it will help.

here is the link if your feeling lazy

Also, alternate picking arps IS a great way to improve you alt picking accuracy and speed...keep it up!

Just remember to lift your fingers after striking the note to make it 'clean'...if the arp/sweep makes it so you have one finger on multiple strings, try 'rolling' that finger off the notes as you pass them.

Good luck dude!

To solve a problem , first you have to analyze.
Why doesn't it sound clean , muting problems , or fretting problems , or synchronization between picking and fretting ?

I know the problem and it's a bit of all of those- my guitar teacher gave me some tips and it sounds far better now but it still needs work

can any of you suggeust some playable, good songs (not just shred solos) that have some good sweeping? I don't want to just play excercises.
