Practice Amp

As part of my mid life crisis I've already bought myself a Strat and a Les Paul.

My playing is comming along niclely but i'm not happy with my amp, a Line 6 something or other). As a confirmed Hi-fi nut I'm after a valve amp and speaker combo to practice with.

Im in the UK and can stretch to £1K, music chase is Blues and old school rock.

Any recomendations?

Have a look at the Marshall DSLs and TSLs. My midlife crisis forced me to buy a TSL 100 and a 4x12 cab !

They sound wonderful !

You can't go wrong with a Peavey Classic 50 or 30 for those styles. I've got the 50 and love it.

you could try the vox ad120... thats what i've got and have been extremely happy with it. if you wanted the same thing but bigger get the VTH head and cab.
as you've got a lot more money to spend than i did, you might want to consider the AC30 which is one of the best amps for classic rock IMHO.

otherwise just go to a good guitar shop and try everything out. thats always the best way! :D

I own a pair of the Peavey Classic 50's and they are a great amp. I'm looking at changing the speakers (Blue Marvel), which in my opinion break up too soon and too much for heavier musical styles. They are meant to sound like the old Vox Alnico Blues.

The balance between the lead and normal channels is not real good if you plan on switching them much. It would have been nice to have a seperate post gain for the normal channel. If you're using distortion pedals and what not, it won't be a problem. Otherwise, this is a great sounding amp with good tube clarity and plenty of gain/volume from the 4- EL84's.

My midlife crisis led me to the fender bassman reissue. I'm happy to report that the bassman and tele helped keep my midlife crisis down to a meer nine years.
