Gibson SG Standard. En route to my house. Monday to Wednesday is the expected arrival. For nearly a year I've been working and saving and trying to get the opportunity to buy this damn thing and finally. Finally. Heritage cherry is the colour.

Awsome man!!!

I have always wanted a Gibson. Either an SG or a Les Paul for me. Not a big fan or the X-Factor series.

Anyway, SG's and Les Pauls kinda sound the same so what made you pick the SG and not the Les Paul.

Just curious...

Before reading this I've been trying to keep it simple but get the feeling the tangent I'm going on is inevitable.

Well I considered what my roots as a guitarist were. I've grown up with Gibsons and Fenders. My dad's got a Fender Strat and an Ephiphone Les Paul. I've already got a Fender and a Squier (both Strats) so I decided I could use a change of sound and feel. Thus Gibson came into play. The experience I've had with a Les Paul showed me that the body was really heavy and was a pain to play when sitting down (still fun to play though mind you) where as the SG isn't so heavy in the body. I also considered my personality and style and felt that the SG had that little edge towards me than the Les Paul. And I just think the SG looks cool as hell. Sooner or later I'm gonna get a Les Paul, I'm sure of it, the way I collect gear. My next instrument is probably gonna be a Carvin 5-string bass as my Squier P-bass has had it. The input jack is junky and the pickguard won't stay screwed down in some spots. It's ready to retire. After that probably an upgrade in amps. But first I need to move out of my mom's basement.

Will you be swapping pickups or anything? What are the stock pickups for an SG Standard?

Right on man! Congrats! SG's are an amazing instrument- not a ton of SG players that come to mind, but it's mad cool when you can finally get that axe you want, not a compromise, so I hope it's everything ya wanted it to be as well.

As of right now I'm not really planning on switching anything around. I may look into it later, but as of right now I've got priorities. Like 1, paying off my car, 2 neutering a cat, 3 moving out of my mom's basement and 4, getting a new bass. It has a 490R humbucker at the neck and a 490T at the bridge, a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece, mahogany body and neck with a rosewood fingerboard and trapezoid inlays for a final touch.

I agree with KingDavid, you should post a pic of you with your new baby when you get it...if you can stop playing it long enough.

I remember the day that I finally saved up enough money to purchase my beloved PRS Custom 22. It was a glorious day that almost brought tears to my eyes (ok, well, not quite that bad). I had to travel about 120 miles to go pick it up, and I couldn't wait to get home to play it... literally. I stopped of at one of my friends that lives roughly midway's between where I got it and where I live, to play it through his amp

I hope you enjoy!

Congrats!

Brings back some memories....I once had a '72 SG, cherry. Slick little guitar until it got smacked at a show and cracked behind the nut at the headstock. :( Traded it for a Tele. God, I miss that guitar!

Take care of yours!
