Hey,

Im currently at the stage, where all of my soloing sounds like scales/bluesy which is very simplistic.

I started off using the minor penationic scale pattern below, and then adding teh next pattern to it.

Problem is, everytime i try to improvise, everything sounds the same.
I was looking around, and saw a lot of guitarists talking of hitting a wall between simple improv(liek mine), and going onto making a guitar squeel like mad (i.e. end solo in nov. rain) :)

I just wondered if anyone had any tips?
Is there a better scales to use?
anything atall would be great :)

Start by adding some blue notes (flat 5s) to it and then experiment by adding some chromatics.

Reason you should like Blues is because pentatomic scales are only different by blue scales by a note or two.

Compare that to the pentatonic in A minor and you'll see why it sound like blue. My advice to making it squal is break away from pentatonic or pay close attention to Zakk wylde.


Try a Harmonic minor scale or a major scale! Or a medolic minor scale. Study why those solo sound badass, and look at the way the fingers move.
