Imagine my supprise, when at my local grocery store, I see something so horrifing, so completely wrong, I thought it had to be a joke from a crule God toying with my emotions.......DIET V8 SPLASH! Were my eyes playing tricks on me. I knew what V8 was, and then they added sugar to it and called it V8 Splash so kids would drink it... but DIET V8 Splash. This must single-handedly take the crown for king of all oxymorons! I concluded that the world must truley be comming to an end when supposed "healthy" drinks are becomming DIET "healthy" drinks.
But there is still some good news... I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance.

I actually think Christ will return far further into time than what is thought(at least 5000 to 20,000 years).

Visibly anyway yes,1% for 'appearance'.7 to 8% body fat is the sweet spot. The rest should be muscle mass.Highly toned skin and vascularity should be noticible.Wind capacity should be incredible with a high pain tolerance as well(developed through a strict running regimen and 'impact' training for pain resistance on major muscle groups).
Combine this with quality firearms training/weapon retention/knife fighting skills,BJJ and JKD/Boxing and your the ultimate man/weapon...

No, he just means appearance. It's simply not possible to survive with that low percentage of body fat. I'm a pretty thin guy. I've been as low as 4%. One starts getting some interesting medical issues that low. Like violent nosebleeds, mental issues, and the risk of death by dysrhythmia.

What about the looks ?
1% bodyfat was mentioned here , I'd like to point out that professional bodybuilders get down to as low as 4% on their contest day , which is pretty tiring and unhealthy ... A good bodyfat percentage is somewhere between that and 10% for males.

You wouldn't see your six packs with that much of fat ! ;)
The range you've mentioned is still thought to be healthy , specially if compared with higher ranges that most of people live with .... However , as we grow older , testosterone levels decreases , and that leads to decrease in the amount of muscles and increase of bodyfats , which is a cause or an agent to various deseases and illness ... So , less is better , for your looks now , and your health later.

I think your body fat does play a major role in whether or not you have a six pack but that the strength/size of the muscles is also important. so maybe you had 15% body fat, you could still have a six pack if your muscles were big enough... also you could have 8% body fat and not have a six pack if your ab muscles are not big enough. it would just be very strange
3rd_degreeburn

seems like some are a little lost with health thing ....I've read in plenty of body building books and magazines that about anything below 6% is unhealthy..the average body fat percentage for someone to be able to see their abs is 6-10% (give or take a few depending on the person)in males and women dont need to get there body fat under 10% otherwise its unhealthy, yet they can still see definiton at a bodyfat of 15% so unless your a woman Hamberg im gonna have to say that you are full of it with being able to have a 6 pack with over a 15% body.. thats just my opinion though
Incase anyone is wondering, I got these numbers from I got them from 2 books:Absolution by Shawn Phillips and the Body for Life by Bill Phillips...great books
Final point...no matter how much muscle you have, your not gonna be able to see its best definition as long as theres unwanted fat covering it.
Everybody have the six packs wether he/she ever workout or not , big or small isn't the issue , it's about how much fat is covering it.
Generaly , for males you must get below the 10% to have visible abs , and it's 15% for females , as "3rd_degreeburn" pointed out .
However , if you have very big ab muscle (gained by very hard training) , it could be barely visible at a little higher than the 10% .

Thats because they have to much muscle weight thats why infantry does more endurance then strength. Also the air force isn't as much into fitness as the army. Why would they be?

from what i've discovered, guys that are super-pumped usually last less long in a fight, and give out sooner than people who have actually trained for endurance.
i lift weights, i cycle (every weekend I ride about 12 miles to work... and then back at night... it's pretty nice along the beach and all but it's kind of a pain when you get back home at 9.30 instead of 8.15 like you would if you drove), and I generally try to stay in good shape. I try to balance my diet as best as possible and contrary to popular belief, though I maintain a strict vegetarian diet (read: [b]no animals[/i] including fish & foul which most people seem to think are vegetables or something) I don't seem to have a problem putting on or maintaining muscle or fat. probably more fat than muscle :(

Very true. They might be ably to put you down quicker, but strength doesn't mean as much in a fight as you might think. I know, I fight a lot! Mostly just for fun, and the incredible adrenlin rush that you get. I am not a big guy, actually rather small, and have worked out maby 2 weeks on, one year off for the past few years. I may lack size and strength, but i sure can hold my own in a fight, and I have fought some pretty tough guys. Actually, I think fighting is a lot more mental than physical.

I have reflexes and speed that I got I think from my two younger brothers trying to beat me up all the time... I just kept trying to block and/or dodge their punches, knowing that if I punched back I would get in so much trouble, so now I'm actually at a point where someone can throw a punch at me, I can block it, counter it, and then they start wishing they hadn't picked a fight with me :D

Ive studied extensivley into various 'reality' based systems of fighting and am quite confident in my ability to preserve myself from any physical attacker/knive attack(also have tried some martial arts like TKD,Kenpo,5 animal system e.c.t...but that stuff will get you stomped in a real defense situation)
I think something that escapes many people is that no matter how big, tough or strong you might be,you still have two eyes that can be gouged/dug into,a throat that can be crushed/traumatized,a nose that can be broken and a whole skeletal system that can be twisted/broken with proper measures.
Also the mental aspect is often neglected when training. The saftey of a dojo just dosn't remedy the adrenaline dumps effects(involuntary shaking, lack of fine motorskills, short term memory loss/perception alteration). If you can control the dump then thats an accomplishment, but you'll be fighting yourself as well as your attacker.
Ive never found fighting fun since i'm a bit 'soft' at heart, but have defended myself effectivley in a few instances. When crap hits the fan,you have to be vicious, victimizing, punishing and unrelenting in the attack.I say attack because your attack is the defense.Never try to block punches waiting to counter or 'square off' with your attacker. You have to victimize your attacker violently to cease their threat to you.
wow, more than I expected to write...hope it was informitive.
Speeking of fights , it's not that on a couple of occasions a little skinny guy managed to beat the crap of a 300 pounder means that's the way it is ... I'd love to see someone of the size and strength (or even more strength) of "Bruce Lee" in a steel cage "no mercy" with a 300 pounds WWF champ , that would be very exciting !
One thing that might lead to confusion , 99% of professional bodybuilders aren't of half the strength that should match their size, even in the gym doing their professioanl workouts, cuz training like that is what earns them their living ... So , keep in mind that bodybuilders who don't train for bodybuilding competition , take much more care of their strength and health.

Exception- judo.
Self defense really is more simple than most people make it out to be. It only takes five pounds of pressure to tear someone's ear off (rip from top to bottom). A kick to the inside of the kneecap can disable an assailant more effectively than a nut shot, often permanently. If you get ahold of a single finger and have a decent grip on it you can bend it backwards until it's laying across the back of the subject's forearm (many attempted rapes have been stopped by this). A hard palm up the nose will stop anyone dead in their tracks.
Moral of the story- don't ever try mugging anyone unless you're packing a firearm or halberd.

also it takes about ten pounds of pressure to break someones collar bone, going for the eyes is good. and if they grab your wrist, just twist your hand around, it works, I have gotten out of someone with a really strong grip's hand that way, he was like a rock climber and guitarist so he had really strong fingers, I still got out by twisting...
also if someone has a harlbard, they don't need to rob me, I would pay them all my money just to see that!!!!

My thoughts on judo and other 'defensive arts'....
don't wait to get you ass kicked!Your attacker will not just give you his hand or go along with a hip throw.Breaking and jamming fingers is an exellent way to end a fight, but you have to be within grappling range or on the ground(and the ground is the LAST place you want to be in a real confrontation). As for fancy wrist locks and using your attackers inertia to gain advantage, its just ridiculous.Letting your opponent strike first is like letting a gunslinger have the first draw. Also, your opponent isn't going to just flow into your defense gracefully as a training partner in the dojo will...
There is no 'tapping out' in a real fight...there are no emt's or doctors standing by(unless you fight in a hospital)...no rules or limits...no form...just your life.
There is never a 'winner' in a real fight or attack...one walks away still breathing and the other injured or worse.

uhhhh... maybe i'm just gay or something, but if someone broke my adam's apple, i'd probably take em to court... there's a difference between someone stepping on your toe and you suing $25mil for emotional damages, and another for someone purposely attacking your neck... FTR the correct attack to the neck can either drop someone like a stone, unconsious, or even kill them... so... i'd assume that someone who did that was probably trying to hurt me pretty damned badly.
oh and FTR, in the McDonald's coffee case... the coffee was 400 degrees farenheit, that particular McDonalds had had a number of complaints about the coffee being too hot, and the woman didn't sue McDonalds for the amount she was awarded; that was given to her by the judge and jury (she had initially just sued for doctor's bills).
just trying to be contrary here. carry on with the karate-talk.

good point. i've been in more than my share of fights, and i let the other guy swing first - for legal reasons.
the fact of the matter is that an orange belt (or red or yellow; depends on the style and region) in shotokan, taw kwan do, kung fu, etc who pays attention to what their sensei tells them is better equipped to win in a fight than the vast bulk of society. most people don't sit around thinking about how they can win in a fight, let alone train for it.
i took tae kwan do for ages and also picked up shotokan, and some jeet kune do as well. i enjoyed it a lot, and i used it a lot more than i should have... and what's funny is that people get used to seeing two guys just slam into each other, throwing punches, grabbing chairs, etc; i'd usually face off, let the guy throw a punch, dodge, throw another punch, dodge, and then let him get out another; at that point he'd feel confident enough that he let his guard down and i could roundhouse him to the upper body on his return. that was usually enough to get them to stop; it's kind of like "oh crap, this guy knows what he's doing!" if that didn't work, a fist or two to the face usually ended it.
the only times i ever went full on into it were on a neo nazi kid in front of his friends (i hate nazis), and then a couple times back when i was in my "bad" days... and they ended up royally f-ed up :D
i'd like to take martial arts just for the love of them again; it's unrealistic and somewhat paranoid, imho, to train as though at some point in your life a well-trained pro fighter is going to attack you. you never know what's gonna happen, of course, but... yeah, for me it's more just the experience of taking the martial art than getting pumped to kick ass.

As long as the threat exists, you are completley justified to start the attack and kick your opponents ass(to a degree). If your attacker ceases his intention,to where he is no longer a threat to you, then you'll be going to jail if you run him down and pound him.
As for lethal force(stangling, strikes to the throat e.c.t)I think the situation is the deciding factor. Some people simply think or say "I'd rather be judged in court by twelve than be carried out by six" and with that mentality, they may apply such force unessecarily.
A general guidline...you are allowed to preserve your life by means of severe force if
(A)your being attacked by two or more people with true intent(NOT your friends throwing you into the pool or something!)
(B)being attacked with a blade(again use discretion...no need to choke your mom while she's cutting the brownies)
(C)being attacked with a firearm(this ONLY apply's if the attacker is within close range and you feel he is going to shoot you anyway when you hand him your wallet/money...otherwise its better to run like hell.)
Those are just very rough guidlines, but the situation should alway's determine the amount of force thats justified by the law.

yeah IIRC a few years ago a bunch of morbidly obese people sued McDonalds for making them and their children fat... which is utterly retarded... anyone who is dumb enough to think two big macs, a super size order of fries and a super sized milkshake is a good square meal will probably end up accidentally killing themselves with a spoon somehow anyway.
and yeah people have sued for getting their arse severely beaten during a mugging/etc that they didn't pull off. in the early 80's a guy successfully sued a woman because he tripped on a hole in her lawn and broke his foot; sure, he was dressed in black and had a ski mask, and various implements of breaking and entering... oh and some rope and duct tape  but the jury ruled it was all circumstantial, and awarded him a couple hundred thousand dollars.
the 80's were the period of time where people were successfully suing for ludicrous amounts of money... it's not anywhere near as bad now, though.

No,its because(well mabey...)insurance company's didn't implement the 'caps' they have now(meaning a person can only get so much). This is also a bad thing as well though.
My mother had just got home from work and was parked in front of our house.A car was speeding, lost control(the guy was high as a kite and was never even questioned)and slammed into my mom.She has whiplash and TMJ now.
The doctor estimated her future health care/therepy costs alone to amount around $36,000.The insurance cap is $20,000...not even enough for physical treatment, let alone compensation for missed work and never being able to do her old job(heavy c.n.a work). She has been lucky enough to find a job where she dosn't have to lift or anything to tough though...

It may be hot, but that lawsuit should've been dismissed. It's common knowledge that coffee's hot and shouldn't be placed between one's legs. No matter how hot the coffee is, I ain't holding it between my legs, or spilling it on myself.
If I spill something, that's supposed to be hot, on my own lap, I should be able to sue for 100s of millions of dollars? BS.
People can get away with lawsuits like this, which is why the world is coming to an end.

The problem wasn't that the coffee was hot, but rather that it was hot enough to case physical harm by burning. Even coffee served even hot enough to curdle milk won't do that.
If I spill something, that's supposed to be hot, on my own lap, I should be able to sue..?
If it's hot enough to scar you when it should only be hot enough to piss you off, yeah. Selling coffee that hot is like selling someone a car while knowing it'll explode if it wrecks at over 5 mph. You just don't do it.

The bottom line is: people are out to make an easy buck. My Aunt and Uncle got sued when their son (my cousin) and his friend were playing in the basement, and the friend tripped while playing on their tredmill. The boys parents sued the insurance company and got $25,000! They complained that theie son was unsupervised-the kids were around 8 years old! The extent of the boys injurys were minimal; he had maybe a small laceration or two. I don't even think he bled at all. $25,000!!!!!! Shoot, I'll fall on a tredmill going full speed for that kind of money!!

Dude I can't speak for everyone, but it seems to me that if someone tore my ear off that I would have to break their God damn neck. Which, by the way, is the weakest part of the body.

Most assailants like easy targets. Getting an ear ripped off most often hurts enough and is scary enough to disuade an attacker because it definitely demonstrates that one means business.
Seriously, who would you rather mug, a girl scout or someone who had every intention of disfiguring you for life?

Let me start by saying that Im not a mugger. With that out of the way, dude, Im just saying that if someone ripped my ear off I would be so pissed at them that I would break their neck. The anger would definately take over more so then the pain. Think about it, if someone disfigured you for life how pissed would you be?

probably the reason I've never been mugged... not even when walking down the street, alone, at midnight... it's either because they think I could take them, or because they think I'm broke.... both are very true...

Hamberg,if the encounter has escalated to 'ear ripping' then you can rest assured that person will break your neck or something just as severe after ripping your ear off.No doubt you would be pissed about a missing ear,but giving thought to the defenders methods, you wont be in pain for too long.I say defender because ive never heard of an attacker ripping off someones ear...thats more of a defensive reaction(though a poor choice for a first strike).
And yes,its true,muggers/criminals and general punks dont usually look for a 'challenge'.They do sometimes pick one by mistake though...

I think it shows quite well what those idiots were expecting...him taking initiative instead of being set up for a sucker punch wasn't in their plan(I bet a million bucks, thats what it would have led to had he 'played into them').It also shows you can suck at fighting, but hold your own as long as you don't let yourself be victimized and launch a first strike. He simply 'scuffled' them a bit...I would like to see the result had the guy trained in some RSBD(reality based self defense)or jkd/bjj...now THAT would be a video.

Yes, it is true that water cannot exist in the liguid state above 212* F at atmospheric pressure. The coffee in the water, however, has pretty much the same chemical behavior as an aqueous solution of an ionic compound. The same way that salt on your driveway (if you live in a colder region) lowers the melting point of water and melts the ice; if you put salt in water and boil it, it raises the boiling point. Its the same with coffee. The change in enthalpy and the new boiling point of the solution all depends on the specific heat of the coffee grounds in the solution, which can be found with the equation C=E/g(delta *C) where C is the specific heat, E is energy absorbed, g is the mass of the sample in grams, and delta *C is the change in temperature measured in degrees C. The new boiling point will only be a few degrees higher, and won't make a big defferance if you spill it on yourself, but I just wanted to set the facts straight.
