...some of my artwork! these are my "Dumby" cartoons, based on the children's TV character Gumby. For those of you who don't know, Gumby was a 1950's-80's claymation character who was about as squeaky clean as a hare krishna in a decontamination room. Highlights of the show included him being polite to everything around him, foiling the Blockheads (who had square heads and were jerks), playing in a really weird MIDI band (in the 80's) and going into books. that's right, he would vanish into books on Indians and fight off a bunch of braves with some cowboys or something of that nature. a fanpage for the show can be found here http://www.gumbyworld.com/index2.html
for the record i am actually a huge fan of Gumby... the show had a massive influence on me. i just happen to be a very, very cynical, sometimes outright volatile person when it comes to satire.
fair warning: the below link contains animated violence, suggestive situations, and liberal use of the "f" and "s" words, and will probably make you stupider. you may need to pray for your and my soul after reading it as well.
quality disclaimer: the originals are actually done in a 5'7 notebook (you can see the spiral in the scans) and so they have been blown up about 100%-200% in the pics so they look like ass to be blunt. plus, i only spend maybe about a half hour from conception (giggling evilly about a storyline) to completion (showing it to my g/f and having her go "Tristaaaaaaan!")

i also thought i'd offer a synopsis of each episode:
EPISODE 1
Dumby angers his pop when he knocks the crackers and milk his mom gave him for being such a good boy off the table. His father is tired of dealing with his "differently-abled" son and is so angered he starts running together his experiences in the military and his opinions on native americans with cold war xenophobia as he drives his Edsel through Magicland! Hilarity ensues.
EPISODE 2
Dumby discovers that drugs are a bad thing when his pony pal Blokey offers him a sample of his latest stash under the pretenses that it will stop his desire for supper. Uh-oh, Dumby! who would have thought that little white thing would give you an aneurism??
EPISODE 3: Who are you and why do you keep taking my lunch?
Someone keeps taking Dumby's lunch when he's out at recess. It turns out it's Sticky, a local starving artist with some very complex and deep, rubik's cube-like problems. he has no friends and wants Dumby to help him smile again. is Dumby up to the challenge?
NOTE: Keith Haring shirt on weird guy on street. Keith Haring was the shiznit even if he would have probably advocated a decrease in funding to the arts for kids if he saw what i ended up doing with it. the other guy's shirt was supposed to be a hot dog in a bun but it looks more like Saturn :( The pronunciation of Sgt. Lardot's name is French; pronounced "Lard-Oh", or "Lardo." it was supposed to be a quip about him being fat but no one else seemed to get it.
EPISODE 4: Dumby In Love
It's springtime and the birds and bees keep attacking DUmby because he's so ugly... but that's another issue entirely... no, Dumby has fallen in love with Dumbette, the "only person truly on his level." But poor Dumby! She dates one of the Brickheads, Magicland's resident bullies/small time pushers. But fortuantely for Dumby, Blokey is a true lothario and is willing to share some of his patented moves. Will Dumby succeed in winning Dumbette's heart?
NOTE: the brickhead's head says "F" and "P" both of which are really amusing letters. The truck Blokey is driving is named "Pepito," which means "Little Pepe" in Spanish (:D)
EPISODE 5
Poor Dumby has been down in the dumps after the Dumbette fiasco, and Dumbette, who is developing into quite the young lady, has started hanging out with the punks. Her new boyfriend is Donut Dingus, a portly lad whose father owns the local donut eatery. Dumby is crushed, but fortunately, Blokey is "down" with what the kids think is cool!" An unclever Iggy Pop reference follows.
NOTE: Mod Dumby, Dumbette and Donut Dingus' shirts ("The Homeless" and "The Retarded," both of which are very punk sounding names)
EPISODE 6: Komrade Dumby (incomplete)
Sticky hears one of the Brickheads insulting Dumby for his inadequacies and feels his pain. he, like, totally feels it, to a far out degree. like, whoa, you know, he totally feels it and it's so heavy, man. like a freaking black hole, coming through the ether, infinitely dense and totally incomprehensible. so anyway, he tells Dumby to follow him into a book that will change his life... the Communist Manifesto! Commander Ivanov has a great proposition for Dumby... will he take it?
NOTE: again this one's incomplete. i started it on a plane ride from LA to Boston and lost interest from Boston back to LA and it's sat since. Initially Dumby was going to get set up making AK47's but i decided instead he'd get a job at Chernobyl monioring all the equipment. he gets bored watching all the oscillioscope and giger meter all day and decides to change the channel... and whoops! global disaster. he ends up getting sent back to the US to hand out literature at a shopping mall, and his dad finds out he's a bolshevik and calls his friend, J. Edgar Hoover, aka Patriotwoman. Just as he's about to be destroyed, Blokey comes to the rescue with Trotsky, the Horse of the Revolution of the People. Will Dumby survive? who cares. i got sick of doing these things. my attention span sucks.
