Hello. I just wanted to say hi and man it’s hard to type now. I just started playing yesterday and my fingers are killing me. I have played drums for, shoot I guess it’s almost 20 years now and always wanted to learn guitar. I told my wife one day and well yesterday she came home with one for me :). I guess its time to put down the sticks for a little while and learn. Took one of the tabs here for "smoke on the water" to get over the repetition and it was somewhat easy to pick up in 30 minutes or so and fun as hell. But I have been mainly going over scales constantly to learn finger placement. Closing my eyes to work on feel only. I don't know if this is a correct way to learn but its how I thought myself drumming. Helped in the fact that I always was able to trust my body and not my eyes. I have one question though; I was looking over some pictures online of finger placement for cords and noticed on some of the more elaborate ones this person' fingers were placed under the neck. It looked to me like it helped in stretching the fingers to reach the string. Is this a common thing to do? I have small hands and stretching has me wondering if I will ever be able to reach the strings and hold them with enough strength to play them correctly. Any advice would be great thanks. Ray...
