hi everyone, I'm new here on this forum. I've been playing guitar for about 5 years now. I never really had a instructor. Mostly play by ears and books. I would like to advance my skills and technique. I really cant read music. my style of music is rock, more of the old rock like GNR, Metallica, any suggestion or headers???
Thanks

Hey welcome to the boards.
GnR and Metallica rock (well, the old Metallica.)
Check out the tricks section of this site, maybe you can find some useful pointers in there.
Best of luck. :)
Hey man, welcome to the site. Sounds like you learned the way I did, although I took lessons for about 6 months about 12 years ago. I mostly learned by reading tabs and learning songs by Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, etc.....just all my favorite bands. Then to learn more advanced technique's, I started learning Dream Theater songs, there is so much technique involved with their music...
Any techniques in particular you wanting to learn?

thanks for responding. Yeah I'm learning guitar the hard way. I'm a late bloomer, I didn't like the guitar till later about 18 years of age, met a friend who inspired me, I considered him good, but shortly after meeting him, he moved away. he mostly played loud rock, flying his fingers up and down, a lot of distortion and wah pedal. After I heard him played, I was stunned and wanted to do exactly what he was doing. I'm not quit sure what technique I should learn? what are some of the easy techniques in rock I should learn or just any???

easier techniques in rock would be palm muting, the kinda sound James Hetfield has on those fat Metallica riffs like Master of Puppets!! also work on your picking technique as this helps a lot!!!
