Hey dudes, I'm new here...found this site on Google and it seemed cool so I figured I'd sign up. But anyway...umm...
I'm a Nirvana fan...heh..I know Kurt wasn't that great of a guitarist or anything, but I still like Nirvana. I keep hearing about "Antisolos"...and uh, I don't really know what those are. Does anyone here know what an Antisolo is?
Thanks in advance.

Hans Solo's evil twin brother?
Never heard of it...unless it's somebody's new cool (sorry, I mean 'sick') buzzword describing a solo that goes against the usual forms and patterns inherent in most solo's.
(in other words instead of learning how to play riffs and scales, you pound around on the guitar until you come up with something that fits)

My understanding is that it's something that's played instead of a guitarsolo.
Like Sonic Youth, there's only alot of noise where the guitarsolo should be.
But I don't know for sure, it might be something completely different.
Whatever the hell it is , anything called "antisolo" must suck !
BTW , I liked Nirvana in my teenage too , and still listen to them time to time.

im not sure what it is...but im guessin it referes to pop rock and all the garbage guitarists related to that type of playin...those one noter solos covered up with sum dumb ass effect and attempted to be passed off as fresh.

"Antisolos" are what started a giant revolution in our music. Nirvana was one of the first bands that decided they were "to cool for solos." So they were basically eliminated. I mean they would put in a guitar interlude, but a real solo? No way! They were against solos. Anti-solo!

an antisolo is when you are at the Wacken Open Air playing a gig on the small stage while michael angelo is shreding his ass off on the mainstage and you are able to play exactly what he plays - just out of phase - and cancell out his performance - just like black noise.
:D
- just out of phase -
That's a sign you've been reading too much physics , or electricity ... Too bad for your health dude . :p

Hi new here myself. The context I've heard it used is people who don't like a million notes played at the speed of light. I'm not an anti-soloist, but I think there's something to the "less is more" school. What you DON'T play at the right time is equally important as what you do play. I love SRV, but I once walked out on a concert of his- every solo sounded the same. Lots of people say his brother is a better player (forget his name) cuz he's a "simpler" player. Santana is getting redundant in his old age, but I'll take a 1 note bend from him almost anytime.
okay ppl, go on youtube and search for the video that is called: nirvana - heart-shaped box 01/23-93
and listen to the anti-solo a 3:29 sec... u will hear an anti-solo of kurt cobain and it's horrible! because it's just a matter of improving a sort solo but using any single note on the guitar. Where u want and it can be (and it's the whole point of an anti solo) totally out of the pentatonic scales...just play random notes... it's ussually not really appreciate i guess in some kind of music..but in grunge or trash metal, it's just fine.
Hope i answered ur question, keep up =)
P.S: i just signed up here

Well is not like you can find it on books, but I guess antisolo is like when nu metal arrived and it was "bad" to play a solo (for bad i mean carppy... not hipe... uncool).
Some music still has that vibe... but lead guitar is coming back, thanks to some bands.
Bottom line... good music is always good and bad music will allways be bad.
My opinion is that guitarist (or guitar players in this case) who are "anti-solo" are either too scared to played solos or they just can't....
I'm on a misson to bring back solo's......
