Guitar Solos

Anyone got any ideas for some cool guitar solos to learn. I just finished Don't Cry by Gun's 'n Roses. It's not hard, but it sounds really cool.

The most fun I ever had learning solos was picking up pieces from Pink Floyd's the wall. They are basically pentatonic riffs that most of us already know, but played with lots of synchopation, feeling and texture.

I also have enjoyed learning joe perry solos from aerosmith. He has a strange style.

Good topic. I would like to hear other ideas as well.

I agree. Pink Floyd rules! Try learning the solos from 'Comfortably Numb'.

I would also recommend the intro solo from 'Coming Back to Life' on the Division Bell. That's one of the most beautiful, melodic solos of all time.

I agree. pink floyd solos are just brilliant. Also, for pentatonics try Black Sabbath - Paranoid and for slightly faster ones Motorhead or Iron Maiden.

You folks to realize that David Gilmour likes to splice 4-5 different solos together in the studio, right?
Of course, people can figure out how to play them anyway, but that's often how he records solos- and often why he doesn't play the same solo live.

You sure about that?? Because on the "Pulse" live video Gilmour plays through everything almost exactly like they sound on the CDs, and he even adds some stuff.

I tend to agree with Christoph, The Floyd is well know for being able to reproduce everything live, including all the background sounds using fancy percussion setups.

Anything from Jimmy Page, his style has influenced me in so many different ways. Its such a great feeling when you can finally nail that guitar solo that you've been hearing inside your head for weeks, its such a powerful feeling, where you almost feel like you're on top of the world. Its such an indescribable feeling when we hear some of our favorite guitar solos for the first time, the first time I heard Page's solo on "Stairway to Heaven", I swear I thought it was the great thing ive ever heard (and to some extent I still feel that way.) Jimmy Page's solos always reflect just enough of his personality, where you can kind of get an idea of how he was feeling at that particular moment, (being that alot of his solos were written rather impulsively.)

When playing the solos of others, its great to go by the rules and follow the soing note for note, but once you get comfortable, don't be afraid to add some of your own style into it, which is the vert essence of creativity. Ide rather hear a sloppy (unpredictable soloist) than a programed robot...

I am sure, I read it in an interveiw from a Classic Guitar magazine (which was reprinted from guitar world or something). Of course, I can't find the issue right now, but I am sure of it's contents.
Of course, Gilmour is an awesome guitarist, but he does record solos 3, 4, 5 at a time and splice them. That doesn't mean they can't be played.

Ok. I see what you're saying. From your original comment I thought you meant to say that Gilmour would splice stuff together from different takes in the studio because he couldn't play them all at once or something. That's definitely not the case!
