View Full Version : What is it called??
What is it called when a band play's everything in the same key. It's an art form in itself, and I've heard before what it's called, but I can't remember and I can't find the term.
Anyone know?

I don't know.
Didn't AFI do that with their last cd?
Don't know about AFI doing it....not a fan. I think Alicia Keys did it with the album Songs in A minor, I think that's what it's called anyway, not a fan of her either.....

When a band plays a whole album in the same key?
Yeah, or even all albums being in the same key..

I think it's the old R.E.M. method we used to call "boring".
It's a common form used in most bands these days cause they rarely know more than 3 chords.

it could just be a progressive band
is the entire album basically one song?
and having an entire album in Aminor is lame, Alicia didn't have to hit any of the black keys
I ****ing hate it when bands do that! They just run out of ideas so they make them ALL sound the same.

I think it's cool as hell if it can be pulled off without everything sounding the same. My jam band does it, 90% of what we play is in C, mostly b/c we're in dropped D tuning, tuned a step down. No 2 songs of ours sound alike......We are intentially doing this as it is an artform, but I just can't find the term or name of the artform.
And it's NOT called boring, and we do know more than 3 chords.....
