I was stringing up my guitar the other day and broke my nut....yes painful. Anyways the end broke off  . Whats the cheapest and most efficient way to get another nut back on there? What materials do i need and what is a good nut to get? Keep in mind, its on my beater mexican fender, so i hope not to get a nut worth more then the guitar.

I just installed a graph-tech nut on my mexican strat. It was only like 7 bucks or so. Works perfectly for me.

Here's a link:

Oh, there is a little tab on the bottom of the nut that will need to be cut/filed away for it to fit right. You can see the tab in the pic on the musicians friend website.

No special tools, just a small hammer and a cloth or something to lay over the nut when your tapping it in. Just get the old one out and carefully tap the new one in. Just be careful not to crack any of the wood on the fingerboard. I used super glue since the guitar is not the greatest of quality.

Probably not the best method of installing a nut, but it worked for me. You may want to see if you get any other responses on the procedure.

I don't think you even need glue if the fit is snug enough. That way, if the nut ever breaks, you won't need to chip it out to replace it. The string tension should hold it in properly.

Just be careful tapping out the old nut, make sure the new one sets nice and flat in the slot, and one small drop of glue is plenty........

Hey guys, heres my two cents worth...I do like the graphite nuts BUT when it comes right down to it the best in my opinion is the mighty Bone nut , cant beat the bone ha ha
