The music from the old mega-man games kick ass! Certain metal bands actually remind me of it...i.e. children of bodom. i dunno, maybe its the fast rhythms and certain harmonies...so youre not alone, i used to know the music to one of the stages from Megaman 2...makes me wish i still had an 8-bit NES....

Jolly, any chance you could hook me up with some tabs for those classics? BTW, have you ever checked out the minibosses? I have a feeling they'd be right up your alley. Check 'em out here. (http://minibosses.com/)

WOW!!! These guys ROCK!!! I'm a little ashamed though, after going through the Megaman 2 medley, I named EVERY song and level. Anyhow, you want the tabs? Sure thing! Do you have powertab? Or do I have to do this the tedious way?

Mr Bungle has some old Nintendo covers; their ska version of the Mario theme kicks ass.
check out the Streets of Rage trilogy on Genesis; the games have AWESOME music.

Sadly, I've already heard Mr. Bungle's stuff. Another great Nintendo cover band is the NESkimos. www.neskimos.com Their Megaman Medley rocks my socks. Streets of rage, eh? I'll look into that. I vaguely remember beating up hordes of evildoers in that game.

I can play the super mario brothers theme on bass and a couple other video game titles that escape me at the moment, but that's it.

You wouldn't happen to be able to do any MegaMan 3 songs as well eh? And on that note, perhaps something from Super Mario Kart from SNES? :D

Nope, I too am anti-tedious. I got power tab, so hook me up homey. Maybe we could start our own NES cover band. What do ya say? Sound Good?

I have a personal quest to do an orchestrated guitar version of all of the zelda music. I have midis of all of them, plus all the Final Fantasy music.
Send me some powertabs to Jolly! (email xcalibur910@aol.com)

I´m right now learning the music in Super Mario Land 1 ( the one with Yoshi).
It is played in some castles(the 7th, I think) and ghost houses, and it gets quite tricky for me when the double picking arpeggios come....

Bet you one already exists in some random garage. Last New Year's Eve at a concert the last song I heard of 2003 was the main Super Mario theme... stupid concerts. They did a pretty kick ass job though, so its all good I guess.

Ever play Ecco the Dolphin II on Sega? One of my favorite games ever, and an amazing soundtrack... wasn't until years later I listened to Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (album, not song), and realized most of the boards from Ecco use various parts of extended jams off that album.

You bet man. Let's see that make 3 guitarists and no drums or bass...this is getting lopsided. Time to infiltrate drum/bass web forums and start recruiting!
In all seriousness does anyone live close to Ohio? I'm sorta serious about this :)

I'm in KY, about 2 hours from the border, but I currently haven't added any NES songs to my guitar vocabulary.

Kentucky huh? Howdy neighbor :p. I live in Northeastern Ohio so I bet it's still another 3-4 hours once you reach the border for a total of like 5-6 hour drive... That'd put a crimp in practicin' huh? :D

I'm sure a bunch exist (2 have already been mentioned on this thread :) ) I don't know what it is about those old songs that kicks so much ass? It must be the fuzzy childhood memories that those tunes bring back. Not to mention the excellent composition.

Some things are just hard to let go. My favorite game was/is Metroid, though I don't know how the music in it would work out.

Billy Sheehan is Steve Vai's bassist. Victor Wooten plays with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. John Entwistle plays with the Who. Getty Lee is the frontman of Rush, and Les Claypool heads Primus.

BTW, Paul_20: If bass was truly unnecessary, guitar and piano players wouldn't be so busy filling in that part of the audio spectrum when there is no bass player.

But seriously theres tons of guitar players but hardly any bass players because the bass isnt fun like the guitar. I mean the guitar you can go crazy on it but the bass you just smack it to death and pluck it haha that sounds funny.
But yeah that would be cool if we all could play together lots of videogame music but every one lives far and i dont have any friends or know any one that plays guitar im the only one that takes interest in it and music.

Speaking of bass, I think back in the day I didn't even know bass exists as an instrument, but all that is changed now.
Is it just me, or is the guy who plays the bass in En Vogue's "Don't Let Go" really really good? I like the guitar part as well, that
uhn!! uhn!!.........
Uhn!!!.....
Uhn!!......
Uh uh uhn!!!!..........
Love it.
And Lorda, might you have an idea about the set up to produce that tone? Or is it just plain technique? I know what your hands do affect the tone you produce a lot.
