For some reason, I have great trouble writing songs. I don't write lyrics, this is just concerning guitar. When it comes to writing, my mind goes blank. It's really getting me down, as I have the ability to play well, but I just can't write for ****. What should I do? :(
I go to write something, and I just have no idea where to start. Can anyone help me with this, where should I start? Any good writing techniques?
Please please please, this is really getting me down.

As in, when I sit down to write some music, I don't know where to start.
Sometimes knowing too much can be a bad thing. :(
Anyone got any tips for writing songs?
just play with your guitar over a long period of time right down whatever
you think of that sounds good to you then sit down look over what you got
and try to put together a song if you still have troubel work with it some things might need to be changd and it might take time to get a realy good
song the main key is right every thing down and remember a song isn't don
till its on the radio so keep working on it
:)
It's nearly impossible to just decide to sit down and write a song (at least for me). That's forcing it, and a forced song will usually end up being weak. For me, I just sit there and jam along with a drum machine or metronome and record it. Then I'll go back and listen to see if I played any riffs that would be worth working with. I write all of my songs this way.....by just jamming.

Thanks for the advice, I will try just jamming along to something and figuring out what I played if I find anything that sounds particularly good. Cheers! :D

forget everything that you know about music and the bands that you like. Turn off the distortion or pick up your acoustic guitar. Get yourself a beer or a snack or something. Sit on the couch and turn on the t.v. I watch cnn because it can keep your interest and its on 24 hrs so you don't have to change the channel when you start getting an idea. After you've done all this. Just play one note man, and think, "what note is going to sound cool after this one?" play a few notes until you find the one that sounds the coolest. Just reapeat this process for 16 notes and you've got yourself a 16 note melody. Thats a pretty good start from not having anything before.
Its also cool to listen to music you used to like a long time ago backwards. I don't recommend this with your favorite band cause it won't sound as cool forwards once you do that. At least it doesnt to me.
