I've done 99% of my guitar playing/learning while in a seated position. Does anyone else find that they suck when they try playing while standing up? I guess I should do it more so I get used to it, but I just want to know if anyone else is less agile while playing standing up.
btw I rule open discussion!

Practice how you'll perform.
Btw, how low do you have your guitar slung when you're standing up?

Been playing for about 3 1/2 years now, I'm still decent when I play standing up, but noticably better when playing in my (preferred) sitting down posture. For a while I had my guitar slung low for maximum coolness, then I decided maximum coolness lies in my easy access to all the frets so I looked to see whereabouts Vai and Satch keep their axes strapped. Not quite down to my knees, not quite nipple-ridin', I'd say the majority of the guitar is above my waist though.

Close to the waist is good. I've noticed quite a few guitarists around here (Iowa, not the forum) who play with the guitar bouncing off their kneecaps and then wonder why they suck.

Low slung guitars may look cool however are very difficult to play.
Standing up just takes practice, I remember 15 years ago when I was first trying to play standing as opposed to sitting that it was more difficult than it looked however with time and practice, it becomes something you just do and don't even think about.
Guitar Hight:
Experiment with the strap at different lengths some where out of site of a mirror. Settle on the hight that is most comfortable and doesn't feel like your arm is being pulled off.
Oh yes, it is worth remembering that a wider strap will be more comfortable as the weight of the guitar is distributed over a wide area. For this reason the thick end of the strap attaches to the neck end of the guitar.

Low slung guitars may look cool..
Only to a certain extent. I've seen a band in concert in which all the members wore their instruments so low they hung below their knees when they weren't holding them up and it was about the most retarded thing I've ever seen done on stage.

Yeah... it's all in position your guitar is in, when i play, mine is a lil bit lower than wheer Tom Morello Has it. I like it like that.

Life happened. No more chat? I dropped by a few nights ago, but no one was there? What happened?

When an entire month went by without any of the ops (You, me, sambob, or Azrael) logging in, chanserv dropped our registration. A month or so ago I went back to reregister the channel but some other guy registered it and now has a @security bot chilling in there. I'll think of something when I get some time, drop me a pm or something. Later.
