Recently I bought Palmer PGA-04 and a new SOVTEK MIG-60 head (low channel moded for Plexi, high channel for JCM800).
As I started playing trough this gear the sound was strange. I don't know which device is working weird. I've not been able to listen to MIG head before (I live in apartment). So I can't say how it is through a cab. And I have no possibility either to check other tube amp through Palmer.
So here is a sound clip I recorded. http://music.lib.ru/file/m/merkurxew_o_i/merkurxew_o_i-palmer-2.mp3 (copy the link to your browser)
For me there is too much of fuzzy bass. I'm thinking the amp doesn't work properly. Isn't it kinda crossover distortion?
Or is it all ok? I mean my MIG sounds as anybody's else MIG would sound through Palmer. Then I'm desperate about silent tube recording….
The setup was next
Guitar: LP St, middle switch positions
Amp: low channel, Pres - 3 o'clock, Bass - 9, Mid - 11, Tr - 2, Mas - full, Pre - 9
Palmer: low and high filters - 12 o'clock, colour - lite, hicutt - off, full range - off.
I need your advice before going to an amp tech or buying new tubes.
