I finally got tired of beating around the bush and put an add in the local/state classified's stating that I'm a rythm guitarist looking to start or join a band. Well, I recieved a few calles about it, but most either played country, were too young to play in a club, or just not my cup of tea. Untill the other day. The bass player for a band called me and we talked for a while and it turnes out we play/write pretty much the same type of music. They have a bassist, drummer, and female singer, but no guitarist, so that's where I fit in (hopefully). I'm supposed to go play with them Saturday, so wish me luck, cuz I need it. I'm not scared, but very nervous in a very excited kind of way, so hopefully I can calm down between now and then, though very doubtful. I'll defanately keep you posted on how things go...

just got back from jamming, and it actually went pretty well. We didn't play as long as I would have liked, but they defanately want me to come back and play with them. Besides the drummer being a little rusty I think we all sounded pretty tight for it being the first time playing with them. We'll have to wait and see how next week goes before I can give a detailed report, but untill then, all's well...

Well, it's been a few weeks now and things are going great. We've got around 8 or so songs(original's) worked up now. We record a little of each practice, so I should be able to post a few clips when I get the time. I only have one gripe. The drummer is a little inconcistent with his timing. Drives me crazy, but he's getting better. Overall, I'm very happy and excited with how things are going. After we get a demo recorded in the studio, we're going to try to start giging, which will probalby take place withing the next month or so  . I'll keep everyone updated whenever I have some news. 'till then, thanks for all the support.

sweet dude!!!! That's pretty quick to be getting out there.. you must be confident in them (and them in you). Glad to hear it.

I hear you on the inconsistent drummer... we had a dude at last weeks open mic that just wouldn't leave the set alone and he was awful... fast, then slow then off beat fills... when the guitarist or bassist f's up it's bad but not as bad as the drummer (timekeeper)

hopefully with time he'll get better or get another band! :D

good luck dude!

any bites on your Triple X? Just curious.. I'm actually happy with what I have now but I'll ask around if you still have it.. I know people that are always looking for stuff..

Glad to hear things are looking up for you, especially finding a band and all that. Where did you post your ad? I'm inspired to get out there and start playing with some people too. Continue to keep us posted, k?

any bites on your Triple X?

I sold it just before the band called me  . Now I'm going to try to sell my Takamine 12-string to help fund a Marshall head.

Mississippi has a weekly classifieds publication called the "Tradewinds" which is the best for selling, buying, and wanted adds.

Wow, has it really been 3 months  . Well, things are still going ok. We played at a party over the weekend and it actually went fairly well. We all had our screw ups, but nothing too awfull. Most of the people at the party were a little older, so they weren't that into our music, but they still enjoyed listening and watching us perform. It was an awsome feeling looking out and seeing several people watching us and really getting into it. This was defanately a great experience for us all, but it also let us know that we aren't ready for a "real" gig yet. Either way, that doesn't bother me, because I'm just having fun playing and writing music :D

You are not alone. We should start a support group. There'd be millions of guitarists around the world signed up.

a support group for guitarist with inconsistent drummers.......sounds like a great idea to me! He is supposed to be the timekeeper, but he tries to keep time with me, so whenever I do a changeup or play a part slower/softer, but in the same time, he slows the tempo down. So, I have to try to speed him back up, which probalby makes me sound like crap  . He has gotten alot better since I said that, but he has no creativity (at least on the drumms). Now that I think about it, I don't really have much confidence in anybody in the band (besides me of course :D ). So, untill I can find some better musicians, I'm just not going to worry about it, and have a good time.

I would join that support group. The alst band I was in, we had a female drummer, who only wanted to play when she wanted to. She would only learn stuff for the band practice the night before the practice, or actually at the practice (we were a ratm tribute band). She couldn't prioritize. Oh and we could only half succesfully practice for 3 weeks in a month due to them female things, periods, she would get real arsey.

Couple that problem with a few others, and eventually I quit.

Good luck with your band dude.
