Who is it?

Idk you might be unique, but if there is one player in the universe that you sound like who is it? This DOES NOT mean you can play with the same type of greatness or non greatness as them though.

Mine would be across between Van Halen and Satiani. I like to play Legato style with many slides and pull-offs/ hammer-ons. But I also do alot of tapping. Bu whenever I play it sounds like some 70's/80's metal solo.

How bout you guys/girls?

Jimmy Page meets David Gilmour with a dash of Angus Young. Every now and then, some EVH/Yngwie-style sneaks out, but I try to control it.

So, basically, it's frantic pentatonic stuff with a few notes with some thought behind them.

hopefully, Jon Schaffer (Iced Earth) and Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom) trying to get a good combination of rhytm and lead.

Rhythm-wise I sound a bit like Eric Johnson, I think... he's one of my bigger influences.

Lead-wise, I don't know; I have too many influences...

This question is too hard... so I'm just going to say I sound like that guy... *points in random direction*. I've become a rhythm singer songwriter gal, so yeah.

I always liked SRV's way of making Blues sound more rock and rollish and still having the same feel of bluesyness. Or then maybe the way Juan Serrano plays guitar with brilliance. I can immediatly tell its them if I here them.

Well most people tell me I sound a lot like a cross between Petrucci, and Vai. But I say it isn't possible, since I'm 13.

Hmph.

I actually did notice that, but it was too late. I think what threw me off was how the original poster named two himself.

I'd definately have to say Slash. I spent the first three years of my guitarin' trying so hard to cop his style that it's just kinda there with me now. I've since moved on, but anytime I do some improv whilst jammin' with some buds a dreamy slash-esqe pent run will come out (maybe i should take the "slash" patch out of my RP300 lol, it's the first to load up when I plug the thing in). I'm movin' on though, now I'm trying to tackle Eric Johnson's tone.... it's to die for.

Wonder why no one mentioned Steve Lukather or Dann Huff, two of the most used session guitarists!!!!????

I find it impossible to pick just one guitarist as I've spent years trying to emulate bits of so many people's playing. I guess I'd have to say Slash with touches of Alex Lifeson, Dave Murray and Eric Johnson - it was him who inspired me to switch to Fender guitars which was the best choice i've made as a guitarist.

I've changed my mind. Who do I sound like?
They all sound like me!!!
ripoffbastardsimgonnasueyouallthewaytoprisongoddammitehhhiya...
Who do you think invented electric guitar in the first place??
I was out with my steel-stringed acoustic playing blues in the early 40's
when the lightning struck me, made my guitar make alot of noise and made
my fingers just spasm out of control. Boom, electric guitar AND shredding invented!
I invented water to, but I'll save that one for later.

I think there is too many great guitarist out there to just pick one,be it the shredding of satch and vai to the texas blues of srv and johnney winter to the guy sitting in his basement that we havent heard,or will never hear.My advice would be,be open to all types of music, because you can learn from everything.Don't wear your influences on your sleave be original. As joe satriani put it a telecaster will always sound great through a vintage amp .but he is glad people are trying new stuff ,because things would be stagnate after awhile...............rock on

Probably Chuck Schuldiner. One of my biggest influences! And a great, great guitar player.

Vai and Satch don't shred?!?! :)

Just because they don't play speed or thrash does'nt mean they don't shred.....Read the new guitar world (sept.04) and see what i'm saying satch gave lessons to alex scholnick, and kirk hammett they were on the scene right after eddie van halen in '77' and he sent thousands of players back to the woodshed to get there chops in shape. But i suppose he doesn't shred either. When yngwie came out they were calling him the swedish van halen....but hey we all have a diffrence in taste......You don't have to shred for an entire song to be a shredder.....check out g3 live in denver to see what i mean................peace :)

DreamRyche2112
08-01-2004, 09:18 PM
Yeah he did teach those guys, but Vai and Satch don't Shred. First of all, shredders are known for their nps rates. Notes per second, and how fast they can pick. Second of All Satch doesn't really pick too much. Vai, Maybe he does a little shredding. Shredders are Rusty Cooly, and Marty Freidman, There is a big difference than playing fast within a lead, like Satch and Vai do, than shredding. I do have the G3 Live in denver dvd, its so Sick!!!!!!!!

Yeah Zakk is the man, listen to the outro solo on Shine On by Pride and Glory
it really shows what you can do with the penatonic scale.

If you want to check out speed then I suggest marshall harrison...The guy has mad chops on the guitar and there even better on the piano...Check out the Chopin etude 1 op. 10....that songs puts guitar shredders to shame but then again its not meant for guitar...thats just my opinion too

I'm going to say that there are a couple of major influences on my playing and I tend to bounce around stylistically between a mix of these... here is the recipe:

15% Vai, Satch
15% Yngwie
25% SRV
10% Randy Rhoads
20% Zakk Wylde
20% Me

(random Willy Wonka quote thrown in)
Willy Wonka: Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple.
Mrs. Teevee: That's 105 percent!

I guess if i'm just doodling around doing rhythm, you might hear dimebag/hanneman influence. For lead stuff,it depends...I suppose like your average death metal shredder.

oh crap,I didn't pick one...fine...eh..hanneman.

I guess I would sound a lil bit like satch with some vai thrown in but mostly John Petrucci he is my biggest influence... been listening to DreamTheater since 94.... I have my own style which im very happy with and I dont want to be a clone... everyone sounds like their fave player even in a small way we might not realize it but we all do...
