I prefer Low Resolution Video (quicker download). I prefer High Resolution Video (better quality).

Here's a lesson showing my process when writing riffs.

I concentrate on one hand at a time, starting with finding a good solid rhythm pattern with my right hand. Then, I add some basic chords to the create a first riffs. Once I have something good going on, I'll try a bunch of different things, this is where the fun comes in. I'll add fill-ins, palm muting, new chords maybe a silence or two to shake it up, anything goes.

It's a very simple approach but a very good exercise to get your creativeness going and will generate some great ideas for your next songs.
